SEVILLA\/BRUSSEL, 5 november 2016. ‘The Land of the Enlightened’<\/em>, de debuutfilm van Pieter-Jan De Pue<\/strong>, is genomineerd voor de European Film Awards in de categorie Beste Documentaire. Dat maakte de European Film Academy (EFA) vandaag bekend tijdens het Sevilla European Film Festival. Met ‘A Family Affair’<\/em> is bovendien ook een Vlaamse coproductie terug te vinden onder de genomineerden. De European Film Awards worden op 10 december in Polen uitgereikt. \u00a0‘D’Ardennen’ van Robin Pront stond eerder ook op de longlist voor de EFA, maar heeft de uiteindelijke selectie niet gehaald.<\/p>\n

Midden augustus raakte bekend dat ‘The Land of the Enlightened’ tot de 15 geselecteerde documentaires behoorde die kans maakten op een nominatie voor de European Film Awards. De afgelopen weken konden de zowat 3.000 EFA-leden alle films bekijken om vervolgens hun stem uit te brengen en zo tot vijf genomineerden te komen, waaronder de hybride film van Pieter-Jan De Pue.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

De regisseur werkte ruim zeven jaar aan zijn debuutfilm en schoot daarvoor beelden in verschillende regio\u2019s in Afghanistan. Het resultaat is een imposant po\u00ebtisch beeldverhaal over Afghaanse kinderen die elk op hun eigen manier hun dagelijkse strijd voeren in een door oorlog verscheurd land.<\/p>\n

De film ging begin dit jaar in premi\u00e8re op het Sundance Film Festival in de Verenigde Staten, waar hij meteen bekroond werd voor Beste Fotografie, gevolgd door verschillende selecties voor vooraanstaande documentairefestivals als Visions du R\u00e9el, Hot Docs, Documenta Madrid en Sheffield Doc\/Fest.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Naast ‘The Land of the Enlightened’ is ook ‘A Family Affair’<\/em> van Tom Fassaert<\/strong> genomineerd binnen de categorie Beste Europese Documentaire. Daarin toont de regisseur zijn reis naar Zuid-Afrika om er zijn grootmoeder te ontmoeten, in de hoop zo de ontbrekende puzzelstukjes van zijn familiegeschiedenis te vinden. Clin d\u2019Oeil Films (‘Samuel in the Clouds’, ‘Waiting for August’)<\/em> coproduceerde de film voor Vlaanderen.<\/p>\n

Uit de vijf genomineerde films zullen de leden van de European Film Academy vervolgens een winnaar kiezen, die bekend gemaakt zal worden tijdens de uitreiking van de European Film Awards in het Poolse Wroclaw begin december. De prestigieuze filmprijzen worden aanzien als het Europese broertje van de Oscars.<\/p>\n

Bart Van Langendonck produceerde ‘The Land of the Enlightened’ voor Savage Film (‘Le pass\u00e9 devant nous’, ‘D\u2019Ardennen’<\/em>). Beide genomineerde films konden rekenen op steun van het VAF\/Filmfonds van Vlaams minister van Cultuur Sven Gatz.<\/p>\n
