BUSAN\/BRUSSEL, 9 september 2016. ‘King of the Belgians’<\/em> van Peter Brosens<\/strong> en Jessica Woodworth<\/strong> is uitgenodigd voor het Internationaal Filmfestival van Busan (6-15 oktober) in Zuid-Korea. Daarnaast gaat de korte film ‘Gerontophobia’<\/em>, die Boris Sverlow<\/strong> realiseerde met een VAF Wildcard, er in wereldpremi\u00e8re.

\n‘King of the Belgians’ ging afgelopen zaterdag onder ruime belangstelling in wereldpremi\u00e8re binnen de Orizzonti-competitie van het Filmfestival van Veneti\u00eb. Het toonaangevende Amerikaanse vakblad Variety had het over \u201ceen aantrekkelijke mockumentary\u201d en omschreef de film verder als \u201ceen heerlijke, verrassende en respectvolle scherts over de absurditeit van (de) monarchie, Belgi\u00eb en de Balkan\u201d.<\/p>\n

Ook de acteerprestaties van hoofdrolspelers Peter Van den Begin<\/strong>, Lucie Debay<\/strong>, Titus De Voogdt<\/strong> en Bruno Georis<\/strong> vielen in de smaak. Zo lauwert Screen International Van den Begin voor de manier waarop hij \u201cde koning een soort eenvoudige en natuurlijke allure geeft en suggereert dat monarchen ook menselijk kunnen zijn als je hen uit hun paleizen haalt\u201d.<\/p>\n

‘King of the Belgians’ krijgt in Busan zijn Aziatische premi\u00e8re, als onderdeel van het World Cinema programma. De film beleeft daarna zijn Belgische premi\u00e8re tijdens Film Fest Gent en komt op 30 november uit in de Belgische zalen. De internationale verkoop is handen van Be for Films, dat naar aanleiding van de lovende kritieken in Veneti\u00eb last minute nog een marktvertoning van de film inlaste op het Internationaal Filmfestival van Toronto dat gisteren van start ging.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Naast Brosens en Woodworths koninklijke odyssee, is ook de korte film ‘Gerontophobia’ van Boris Sverlow uitgenodigd voor Busan. De 15 minuten durende film speelt zich af in een utopische maatschappij waar na een mislukt experiment een giftige gaswolk vrijkomt die alles en iedereen op zijn pad veroudert. Een zwangere vrouw zet haar eigen veiligheid en die van de andere ge\u00ebvacueerden op het spel om haar achtergebleven geliefde te redden.<\/p>\n

Marieke Dilles<\/strong> en Maarten Ketels<\/strong> vertolken de hoofdrollen in dit science fiction drama waarvoor Sverlow live action beelden met animatietechnieken combineerde tot een film met een vleugje retro.<\/p>\n

‘Gerontophobia’ krijgt in Busan zijn wereldpremi\u00e8re binnen de Wide Angle sectie van het festival. De film werd gerealiseerd met de steun van een VAF Wildcard – de jaarlijkse filmprijzen voor jong talent uitgereikt door het Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds – die Sverlow in 2011 won met zijn afstudeerfilm ‘Shattered Past’.<\/em><\/p>\n

‘King of the Belgians’ is een productie van Bo Films, in coproductie met Entre Chien et Loup in Belgi\u00eb, Topkapi Films uit Nederland en het Bulgaarse Art Fest. Everstory Productions produceerde Gerontophobia. Beide films konden rekenen op steun van het VAF.
