GENT \u2013 ‘Johnny Walker’<\/em>, de nieuwe speelfilm van regisseur Kris De Meester<\/strong>, viel in de prijzen tijdens het Push! Film Festival in Bristol, USA (12-14 juni). Dat maakte het festival zojuist bekend. De film kreeg de prijs voor ‘Best Feature Film’.
\n‘Johnny Walker’ is een bewerking van Fyodor Dostojevski\u2019s ‘Aantekeningen uit het Ondergrondse’<\/em> en vertelt het verhaal van een Hollywood-regisseur die ver voorbij zijn hoogtepunt is.
\nKan een man zichzelf enigszins respecteren wanneer hij plezier beleeft aan zijn eigen ondergang? Deze en andere bedenkingen wegen zwaar op de gemoedstoestand van het hoofdpersonage Johnny, gespeeld door nieuwkomer Hank Botwinik<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Met behulp van verwarde en vaak tegenstrijdige memoires probeert hij om zijn vervreemding van de moderne samenleving te verklaren. Hij leeft ge\u00efsoleerd van de buitenwereld en doodt de tijd al dolend in de bossen rond zijn kasteel. Hij fantaseert over de dood, verlangt er zelfs naar. Volgens hem is langer leven dan zestig jaar een kwestie van slechte manieren, vulgair en immoreel.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Naast Hank Botwinik bestaat de cast van ‘Johnny Walker’<\/em> uit Eric Godon<\/strong> (‘In Bruges’<\/em>), Astrid Whettnall<\/strong> (‘Yves Saint Laurent’<\/em>), Mieke Daneels<\/strong> (‘Four Roses’<\/em>), Christelle Cornil<\/strong> (‘Deux jours, une nuit’<\/em>) en Udo Kier<\/strong> (‘Blade’<\/em>) als de stem van Fyodor.<\/p>\n

Het Push! Film Festival vond plaats in de stad Bristol dat deels gelegen is in de Amerikaanse staten Tenessee en Virginia. Een perfecte locatie voor een film met een communautaire achtergrond. Zo speelt ‘Johnny Walker’ zich af in een Vlaams gehucht dat volgens enkele Waalse ambtenaren (gespeeld door Eric Godon en Michel Schillaci)<\/strong> ooit Waals territorium zou geweest zijn. De Vlaamse collega’s in het verhaal (gespeeld door standup comedians Steven Mahieu<\/strong> en Piet De Praitere<\/strong>) betwisten dit.
\n‘Johnny Walker’ werd eerder geselecteerd voor het Auteur International Film Festival (Los Angeles), het Los Angeles Cinefest, het Hollywood North Film Festival (Trenton, Canada) en het Salon Internacional de la Luz (Bogota, Colombia) waar het de prijs won van ‘beste cinematografie’.<\/p>\n

De Belgische release van de film is in voorbereiding en wordt verwacht rond de jaarwisseling.<\/p>\n
