In totaal waren er 46 internationale kortfilms in competitie. De film verraste door naast de &#8216;Grand Prize&#8217; ook de Juryprijs van de Jeugd weg te kapen. De prijzen doen de Vlaamse kortfilm afklokken op 32 awards (en 4 eervolle vermeldingen) sinds zijn Belgische premi\u00e8re. Dat is meer dan zijn voorganger, <em>&#8216;Land of the Heroes&#8217;<\/em>, die in totaal 24 prijzen haalde, onder andere de Juryprijs op de Berlinale.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ook de volgende festivalselecties kondigen zich veelbelovend aan. Zo is de film geselecteerd voor KingBonn New Media Festival in China, en zal hij ook te zien zijn op onder andere het KISFF in Oekra\u00efne, Leiden International Short Film Experience in Nederland, Pielagos en Corto in Spanje, SIFF Survival International Film Festival in Australi\u00eb, In the Palace in Bulgarije en Made in Europe filmfestival in Nederland.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cinevox.be\/nl\/baghdad-messi-en-duitse-dubbelslag\/director_sahim_omar_kalifa_baghdad_messi-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-55782\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-55782\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cinevox.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/04\/Director_Sahim_Omar_Kalifa_BAGHDAD_MESSI-2-404x270.jpg\" width=\"404\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/welovecinema.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/04\/Director_Sahim_Omar_Kalifa_BAGHDAD_MESSI-2-404x270.jpg 404w, https:\/\/welovecinema.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/04\/Director_Sahim_Omar_Kalifa_BAGHDAD_MESSI-2-800x534.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 404px) 100vw, 404px\" \/><\/a>Sahim Omar Kalifa vertelt met &#8216;Baghdad Messi&#8217; het verhaal van de kleine Hamoudi die samen met andere kinderen van het dorp gek is op voetbal \u00e9n een grote fan is van Lionel Messi. Maar aan de vooravond van de Champions League finale tussen FC Barcelona en Manchester United begeeft zijn televisietoestel het&#8230; Hamoudi overtuigt zijn vader om het toestel te laten herstellen in Bagdad.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Het scenario van &#8216;Baghdad Messi&#8217; werd geschreven door Sahim Omar Kalifa en <strong>Kobe Van Steenberghe<\/strong>. Deze laatste produceerde de film ook samen met <strong>Hendrik Verth\u00e9<\/strong> voor a team productions (<em>\u2019Image&#8217;<\/em>,<em> &#8216;The Circle&#8217;<\/em>, <em>&#8216;What about Eric?&#8217;<\/em>). De film kon rekenen op steun van het VAF.
