Ook de Vlaamse coproducties &#8216;<i>Before The Last Curtain Falls&#8217;<\/i>, &#8216;<i>Ne me quitte pas&#8217;<\/i>\u00a0en &#8216;<i>See No Evil&#8217;<\/i>\u00a0zijn te zien in Toronto. Hot Docs loopt dit jaar van 24 april tot en met 4 mei.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Teodora Mihai brengt met &#8216;<i>Waiting for August&#8217;<\/i>\u00a0het aangrijpende verhaal van de 15-jarige Georgiana Halmac. Samen met haar zes broers en zussen woont het meisje in een sociale woning in de stadsrand van het Roemeense Bacau. Omdat moeder Liliana in Itali\u00eb de kost probeert te verdienen en pas in de zomer terugkomt, wordt Georgiana tegen wil en dank tot gezinshoofd gepromoveerd. Met de verantwoordelijkheid voor haar broers en zussen op de schouders komt al snel een einde aan haar leven als adolescent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i>Waiting for August<\/i>\u00a0is geselecteerd voor de internationale competitie van het festival en maakt zo kans op zowel de juryprijs als de publieksprijs. Ook het met Vlaanderen gecoproduceerde &#8216;<i>See No Evil&#8217;<\/i>\u00a0van Jos de Putter, een productie van Cobra Films, is te zien in competitie.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cinevox.be\/nl\/5-vlaamse-coproducties-op-hot-docs-toronto\/unknown-2-39\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-54027\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-54027\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cinevox.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/03\/Unknown-2.jpeg\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/welovecinema.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/03\/Unknown-2.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/welovecinema.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/03\/Unknown-2-200x113.jpeg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>De documentaire &#8216;<i>Before The Last Curtain Falls&#8217;<\/i>\u00a0gaat eind april dan weer in wereldpremi\u00e8re in het Canadese competitieluik van Hot Docs. De Duits-Canadese regisseur Thomas Wallner vertelt daarin een verhaal van liefde, bittere ontgoocheling, zelftwijfel maar bovenal ook moed. De moed die vereist is om risico\u2019s te nemen, nieuwe wegen in te slaan en \u2013 ongeacht leeftijd \u2013 volledig zichzelf te zijn. &#8216;<i>Before The Last Curtain Falls&#8217;<\/i>\u00a0volgt een groep transseksuelen en drag queens, allen zestigers en zeventigers, die nog een laatste keer het podium op gaan. De voorbije twee jaar hebben ze getoerd doorheen vijf continenten en oogstten ze succes met de opvoering van \u2018Gardenia\u2019, een stuk geregisseerd door Alain Platel en Frank Van Laecke. Het einde van de tournee betekent voor de glamoureuze perfomers ook een terugkeer naar hun rustige leven van weleer, een leven buiten de schijnwerpers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Het scenario werd mee geschreven door de Vlaamse cineaste Eva K\u00fcpper (&#8216;<i>What\u2019s in a Name&#8217;<\/i>, &#8216;<i>State of the Art&#8217;<\/i>), terwijl de film daarnaast ook ingeblikt werd met een grotendeels Vlaamse crew. Bart Van Langendonck van Savage Film (\u2019<i>Labyrinthus&#8217;<\/i>, \u2019<i>Rain&#8217;<\/i>, \u2019<i>Rundskop&#8217;<\/i>) coproduceerde de film voor Vlaanderen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cinevox.be\/nl\/5-vlaamse-coproducties-op-hot-docs-toronto\/sd03_b01_adrift_2013\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-54028\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-54028\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cinevox.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/03\/SD03_B01_ADRIFT_2013.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/welovecinema.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/03\/SD03_B01_ADRIFT_2013.jpg 200w, https:\/\/welovecinema.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/03\/SD03_B01_ADRIFT_2013-190x270.jpg 190w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>In het kortfilmprogramma van Hot Docs is verder nog \u2019<i>Adrift&#8217;<\/i>\u00a0van Frederik Jan Depickere terug te vinden. De negen minuten durende documentaire toont een politieke vluchteling uit Oeganda die doelloos rondzwerft op een plek zo\u2019n 150 kilometer van de poolcirkel. De korte film was eerder al te zien in o.a. Rome, Tampere, Hamburg en Uppsala en viel ook al verschillende keren in de prijzen. Daniel De Valck produceerde\u00a0Adrift\u00a0voor Cobra Films (&#8216;<i>Inhale Exhale&#8217;<\/i>, &#8216;<i>Exodus Borealis&#8217;<\/i>).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8216;Ne me quitte pas&#8217;<\/i>\u00a0van Niels van Koevorden en Sabine Lubbe Bakker werd tot slot toegevoegd aan het programma Special Presentations. De Nederlands-Belgische coproductie schetst een drama aan de rand van de samenleving. Vlaamse coproducent is Maarten Schmidt voor Storyhouse.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hanne Phlypo en Antoine Vermeesch van Clin d\u2019Oeil Films (&#8216;<i>Houses With Small Windows&#8217;<\/i>, &#8216;<i>The art of becoming&#8217;<\/i>) produceerden &#8216;<i>Waiting for August&#8217;<\/i>.
