De fictiespeelfilm Heysel 85<\/em> van regisseur Teodora Ana Mihai is geselecteerd voor het Internationaal Filmfestival van Berlijn (12\u201322 februari). De film over het Heizeldrama wordt er vertoond als Special Gala Screening en gaat er in wereldpremi\u00e8re. Daarmee maakt Heysel 85<\/em> deel uit van een bijzonder sterke Vlaamse aanwezigheid op de 76ste editie van de Berlinale.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Na haar debuutfilm La Civil<\/em>, die in 2021 werd geselecteerd voor het Festival van Cannes, brengt de Vlaams-Roemeense regisseur met Heysel 85<\/em> opnieuw een aangrijpend en gelaagd verhaal, ditmaal over een van de meest traumatische momenten uit de Europese voetbalgeschiedenis.<\/p>\n

De film speelt zich af tegen de achtergrond van de dramatische gebeurtenissen op 29 mei 1985 in het Heizelstadion in Brussel, waar 39 mensen om het leven kwamen tijdens de finale van de Europa Cup tussen Liverpool en Juventus. Wanneer het geweld uitbreekt, belanden de dochter van de burgemeester en een journalist met Italiaanse roots in het hart van de tragedie, verscheurd tussen hun professionele plicht, loyaliteit aan hun familie en morele verantwoordelijkheid.<\/p>\n

Violet Braeckman<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

De hoofdrollen worden vertolkt door Violet Braeckman en Matteo Simoni. De regie is in handen van Teodora Ana Mihai, die het scenario samen schreef met Lode Desmet en Isabelle Darras. De film wordt geproduceerd door Hans Everaert voor Menuetto, in coproductie met Les Films du Fleuve (Belgi\u00eb), Topkapi Films (Nederland) en Leitwolf (Duitsland), in samenwerking met Casa Kafka Pictures en Kinepolis Film Distribution (KFD).<\/p>\n

Naast haar hoofdrol in Heysel 85<\/em> werd Violet Braeckman geselecteerd als European Shooting Star 2026, een selectie van tien opkomende Europese acteurs die tijdens het festival aan de internationale pers en filmindustrie worden voorgesteld. Co-hoofdrolspeler Matteo Simoni maakte in 2018 al deel uit van de Shooting Stars-selectie.<\/p>\n

Heysel 85<\/em> kwam tot stand met de steun van het VAF\/Filmfonds, de Belgische tax shelter, het Centre du Cin\u00e9ma et de l\u2019Audiovisuel de la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Wallonie-Bruxelles (CCA), het Nederlands Filmfonds (NFF) en de Netherlands Film Production Incentive, het MOIN Filmfund Hamburg\/Schleswig-Holstein, Creative Europe MEDIA en BeTv & Orange. Daarnaast investeerde ook Screen Flanders in de productie. Proximus en VRT zijn betrokken als coproductiepartners.<\/p>\n
