Filmfestival Oostende (FFO) blijft trouw aan zijn traditie om elk jaar een Vlaams talent in de schijnwerpers te zetten dat de Belgische audiovisuele sector mee vormgeeft. Voor de 18de editie valt de keuze op actrice en scenarist Ruth Becquart, een markante stem binnen het Vlaamse film- en televisielandschap.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ruth Becquart (\u00b01976) studeerde af aan Studio Herman Teirlinck<\/strong> en bouwde sindsdien een indrukwekkend parcours uit in theater, film en televisie. Na haar filmdebuut in Linkeroever<\/em> (2008) brak ze door bij het grote publiek met de reeks Clan<\/em> (2012). Ze groeide vervolgens uit tot een vaste waarde in succesvolle producties als Chauss\u00e9e d\u2019Amour<\/em>, Gent-West<\/em>, De Dag<\/em>, Over Water<\/em>, Undercover<\/em>, Twee Zomers<\/em> en Knokke Off<\/em>. In 2024 maakte ze bovendien haar debuut als scenarist met Julie zwijgt<\/em>, dat ze samen schreef met Leonardo van Dijl. De film was de Belgische inzending voor de Oscars en werd in Cannes bekroond met twee prijzen.<\/p>\n

Als Master van FFO26 koos Becquart voor het thema \u2018De verhalen die ons verbinden\u2019<\/strong> \u2013 een ode aan de kracht van verhalen om mensen dichter bij elkaar te brengen. Verhalen, zegt ze, vormen de ruggengraat van onze menselijkheid: ze helpen ons de werkelijkheid begrijpen, identiteit opbouwen en betekenis vinden in een steeds meer gepolariseerde wereld.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cHet woord \u2018verbinding\u2019 wordt te pas en te onpas gebruikt, maar het klinkt soms een beetje wollig,\u201d zegt Becquart. \u201cMijn thema is een oproep om die term terug in ere te herstellen. En dat wil ik doen door het zo goed mogelijk in de praktijk toe te passen, zowel serieus als lichtvoetig.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Met haar programma brengt Becquart films die empathie en verbondenheid<\/strong> oproepen, maar zoekt ze ook buiten de filmzaal<\/strong> naar manieren om mensen samen te brengen. Ze wil bruggen slaan en nieuwe gesprekken op gang brengen, met verhalen als middel om elkaar beter te begrijpen.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cMet \u2018verhalen\u2019 wijs ik niet enkel op grote literaire werken of filmklassiekers,\u201d legt ze uit. \u201cVerhalen vind je overal; in elk gesprek, in elke ontmoeting, in elke blik naar buiten, naar binnen of naar elkaar.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Tijdens FFO zal Ruth Becquart een selectie van acht films<\/strong> presenteren die volgens haar op uiteenlopende manieren verbinding stimuleren \u2013 inhoudelijk of thematisch. Elk van die films wordt gekoppeld aan activiteiten die het festivalthema verder uitdiepen. De concrete invulling daarvan wordt later bekendgemaakt.<\/p>\n

Zo blijft Filmfestival Oostende trouw aan zijn missie: het vieren van Vlaamse creativiteit \u00e9n de verbindende kracht van cinema.<\/p>\n
