P<\/strong><strong>aramount Pictures e<\/strong><strong>n<\/strong><strong> Activision <\/strong><strong>hebben aangekondigd dat ze werken aan een live-action verfilming van <em>Call of Duty<\/em>, \u00e9\u00e9n van de grootste cult-hits uit de gamewereld. Het creatieve team dat zijn tanden in het project zet, heeft bovendien alles in huis om er een intense en realistische trip naar dat militaire universum van te maken.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>De man die <em>Call of Duty: The Movie<\/em> in strakke banen zal leiden, is niemand minder dan Peter Berg. Als regisseur heeft hij al meermaals bewezen dat hij intense actie, memorabel drama en snedige thriller in de vingers heeft. Om maar enkele titels uit zijn rijke oeuvre op te sommen: de politieke thriller <em>The Kingdom<\/em>, de zwierige superheldensatire <em>Hancock<\/em>, de militaire actie <em>Lone Survivor<\/em>, de waar gebeurde rampenfilm <em>Deepwater Horizon,<\/em> het historische actiedrama <em>Patriots Day<\/em> en de ijzersterke westernserie <em>American Primeval<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Meestal doet hij ook zijn duit in het zakje als scenarist, en in dit geval krijgt hij bovendien de steun van Taylor Sheridan, de geestelijke vader van de bejubelde serie <em>Yellowstone<\/em> en auteur van donkere thrillers als <em>Sicario<\/em> en <em>Hell or High Water<\/em>. Berg en Sheridan zullen <em>Call of Duty<\/em> samen schrijven en produceren.<\/p>\n<p>Het is niet toevallig dat Paramount en Activision net dit duo gekozen hebben om <em>Call of Duty<\/em> naar het witte doek te vertalen. Peter Berg is een ware expert als het erop aankomt om intense tactische grondgevechten in beeld te brengen. Taylor Sheridan heeft dan weer het talent om verhalen te cre\u00ebren over complexe personages, de morele kant van conflicten en de menselijke tol van geweld. Die combinatie laat vermoeden dat <em>Call of Duty<\/em> meer om het lijf zal hebben dan louter vuurwerk. We mogen ons opmaken voor een film die met beide voeten in de realiteit van hedendaagse militaire operaties staat.<\/p>\n<p>De concrete details van het verhaal blijven voorlopig nog vertrouwelijk. Zal <em>Call of Duty<\/em> zich focussen op een specifieke campagne die al bewezen heeft dat ze bij de fans in de smaak valt (zoals <em>Modern Warfare<\/em> of <em>Black Ops<\/em>)? Of zullen Berg en Sheridan een origineel verhaal uit hun mouw schudden dat zich in hetzelfde universum afspeelt?
