Deze Belgische coproductie kwam mede tot stand dankzij Frakas Productions en kon rekenen op enkele grote Belgische talenten. Zoals de Belgische DOP Ruben Impens \u2013 gekend van de films van Felix van Groeningen en winnaar van de Gouden Palm voor Titane van Julia Ducournau. Maar ook de Belgische gripper Yves Crabbe tekende present en er werd een Belgisch decorteam aangetrokken onder leiding van Eve Martin, die gekend is van haar werk voor Lukas Dhont. \u2018Animale\u2019 speelt zich af in de ruwe, door mannen gedomineerde stierenrenwereld van de Zuid-Franse Camargue. De prent volgt de 22-jarige Nejma (een rol van de Franse actrice Oulaya Amamra, onder meer gekend van haar rol in de Netflix-reeks \u2018Vampires\u2019) die haar plaats probeert te veroveren in dit harde, folkloristische decor, waar ze wordt geconfronteerd met hedendaagse thema\u2019s als toxische mannelijkheid en persoonlijke groei.
