Het portret van een Palestijnse theatermaker die leeft in het Shatila-kamp in Beiroet werd warm ontvangen, mede dankzij de aanwezigheid van de hoofdpersonages Jamal en Mona Hindawi. Zij kwamen speciaal vanuit Libanon naar Gent afgereisd om deze bijzondere avond bij te wonen. De film zal op 12 maart 2025 uitkomen in de Belgische zalen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"styles_paragraph__GiKq6\">&#8216;The Jacket&#8217;\u00a0is een portret van Jamal Hindawi, een Palestijnse man die met zijn familie in ballingschap leeft in het vluchtelingenkamp van Shatila in Beiroet. Samen met zijn vrienden maakt hij politiek theater over hun diepe verbondenheid met hun thuisland, Palestina, en hun situatie als vluchtelingen in het land waarin ze geboren zijn, Libanon. Wanneer Jamal een reis onderneemt om een verloren theaterrekwisiet terug te vinden, ziet hij hoe de opeenvolgende politieke en economische crises een hele regio en haar bevolking hebben ontwricht&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mathijs Poppe op FFG2024\" width=\"618\" height=\"464\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/z-uJbJtZYK0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"styles_paragraph__GiKq6\">Op de dunne grens tussen fictie en documentaire toont de zachtmoedige film &#8216;The Jacket&#8217;\u00a0hoe Jamal omgaat met heimwee naar het land dat zijn ouders nog voor zijn geboorte hebben ontvlucht. KASK-alumnus Mathijs Poppe, die in 2017 al met Jamal en zijn familie samenwerkte voor zijn afstudeerfilm\u00a0&#8216;Ours is a Country of Words&#8217;, documenteert op wiens schouders het lot het zwaarst weegt. Daar leerde hij Jamal Hindawi kennen, met wiens gezin Poppe zijn afstudeerproject &#8216;Ours Is a Country of Words&#8217; (2017) maakte. Nu is Jamal het centrale karakter in &#8216;The Jacket&#8217;, zijn eerste lange film.<\/p>\n<p class=\"styles_paragraph__GiKq6\"><strong>&#8216;The Jacket&#8217; is een productie van van\u00a0Elisa Heene voor Mirage, in coproductie met het Franse\u00a0Fulgurance, het Nederlandse Family Affair Films, het\u00a0Libanese Placeless Films, Lyon Capitale TV en Al Jazeera Documentary.\u00a0De film kwam tot stand me<\/strong>t\u00a0<strong>de steun van het VAF\/Filmfonds, de Tax Shelter maatregel van de Belgische overheid, Flanders Tax Shelter, National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image (CNC), Angoa \u2013 Procirep en het Nederlands Film Fonds (NFF).
