De VR-film Floating with Spirits<\/em> van Juanita Onzaga is geselecteerd voor Venice Immersive, de competitie\u00a0voor immersieve en XR projecten van\u00a0het Internationaal Filmfestival van Veneti\u00eb (30 augustus-9 september). Productiemaatschappij Cassette for timescapes is goed vertegenwoordigd in Veneti\u00eb, met naast Floating with Spirits<\/em> ook een coproductie in selectie en twee filmprojecten op de Venice Gap-Financing Market.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Juanita Onzaga<\/strong> is een Belgisch-Colombiaanse filmmaker die in 2016 een VAF Wildcard won met haar LUCA School of Arts-afstudeerfilm, de korte documentaire The Jungle Knows You Better Than You Do<\/em>, die nadien\u00a0voor de Berlinale geselecteerd werd en\u00a0daar werd\u00a0bekroond met de Speciale Prijs van de\u00a0Generation 14plus-jury.\u00a0Haar volgende film Our Song to War<\/em>, ook een korte documentaire die zich afspeelt in het Colombiaanse dorp Bojaya, was in 2018 geselecteerd voor de Quinzaine des R\u00e9alisateurs in Cannes. Opvolger Tomorrow is a Water Palace<\/em> was in 2022 geselecteerd voor de Ammodo Tiger Competition van het International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR).<\/p>\n

Floating with Spirits <\/em>is een 31 minuten durende VR-experience waar de kijker twee zusjes volgt die zich voorbereiden op de Dag van de Doden in de mystieke bergen van Mexico. De meisjes\u00a0herinneren zich de verhalen die hun sjamaanse grootmoeder vroeger vertelde. Terwijl de Mazateekse gemeenschap feestviert, betreden we de geheime wereld van hun voorouders en de geesten van de natuur en krijgen we toegang tot de diepgaande en inspirerende wijsheid die ze in zich dragen.<\/p>\n

\u201cWat gebeurt er met onze perceptie wanneer voorouderlijke inheemse kennis met ons gedeeld wordt? Floating with Spirits<\/em> neemt ons mee op een zintuigelijke en po\u00ebtische reis om onze verbinding met de natuur en het hiernamaals te herbedraden. Naast het scenario en de regie verzorgde Juanita Onzaga ook het camerawerk. De productie is van Emmy Oost<\/strong> en An Oost<\/strong> voor Cassette for timescapes<\/strong>, in coproductie met het Luxemburgse Tarantula en het Nederlandse Studio Biarritz. De film werd eerder dit jaar gepresenteerd als work-in-progress op de CineMart van IFFR.<\/p>\n

Samen met Studio Biarritz heeft Cassette for timescapes nog een tweede selectie in Veneti\u00eb: het VR-project The Imaginary Friend<\/em> van Steye Hallema, een Nederlands-Vlaamse coproductie, die net als Floating with Spirits<\/em>\u00a0in wereldpremi\u00e8re gaat op\u00a0Venice Immersive.<\/p>\n

Venice Gap-Financing Market<\/strong><\/p>\n

Naast een toonaangevend filmfestival is Veneti\u00eb ook een belangrijke afspraak voor de internationale filmindustrie met o.a. de Venice Gap-Financing Market, een platform waar productiemaatschappijen van over de hele wereld hun projecten in ontwikkeling kunnen pitchen met het oog op financiering en coproductie.<\/p>\n

Drie Vlaamse projecten zijn geselecteerd voor de derde editie van de Venice Gap-Financing Market (1-3 september):<\/p>\n

  • The Time of a Moment<\/em>, een VR-project van Kate Voet<\/strong> & Victor Maes<\/strong> geproduceerd door Cassette for timescapes;<\/li>\n
  • Gay Simulator<\/em>, een Nederlands-Vlaamse VR-productie van Iris van der Meule<\/strong> met Cassette for timescapes als lokale partner;<\/li>\n
  • Fiore Mio<\/em>, een documentaire in ontwikkeling van de Italiaanse auteur en filmmaker Paolo Cognetti<\/strong>, schrijver van o.a. De acht bergen<\/em>, die gecoproduceerd wordt door Harald House<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
