Vorige week vrijdag ging Cool Abdoul<\/em> in premi\u00e8re op Film Fest Gent, de film is nu te zien in alle zalen.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>De Vlaamse debuterende regisseur Jonas Baeckeland<\/strong> verfilmde het bewogen leven van de Gentse bokser Isma\u00efl Abdoul tot de biopic Cool Abdoul<\/em>, een karaktergedreven drama over dromen, ambitie en tragiek. Abdoul won de Europese titel en werd daarna gearresteerd en veroordeeld voor een gevangenisstraf van vijf jaar.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Patser<\/em>– en Into the Night<\/em>-acteur Nabil Mallat<\/strong> onderging een indrukwekkende fysieke transformatie om Abdoul te vertolken. Om zijn internationale boksambities te financieren klimt hij op als portier, waar hij in aanraking komt met het nachtleven en de drugshandel.<\/p>\n

Hij vervreemdt van zijn grote liefde Sylvie (Anemone Valcke<\/strong>) en zijn coach (Johan Heldenbergh<\/strong>) die zijn leven op de rails hielden. Hij komt terecht in een strijd tussen zijn eigen normen en waarden en discriminatie naar zijn eigen gemeenschap.
