The Searchers maakte vandaag bekend dat ze de wereldwijde rechten hebben gekocht van Baghdad Messi<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Samen met A Team Productions<\/strong> brengt The Searchers<\/strong> de Belgische – Irakese – Nederlandse – Duitse langspeelfilm Baghdad Messi<\/em> van Sahim Omar Kalifa<\/strong> naar het grote witte doek. De Belgisch-Koerdische regisseur oogstte al eerder succes met Zagros<\/em> en regisseerde de kortfilm Baghdad Messi<\/em>. Nu verzorgt hij dus ook voor de langspeelfilm de regie. Het scenario is van de hand van Kobe Van Steenberghe<\/strong> met wie Sahim reeds verschillende keren succesvol samenwerkte in het verleden. De opnames vinden momenteel plaats op verschillende locaties in Irak.<\/p>\n

Voor het eerst beschikt The Searchers\u00a0nu dus niet enkel over de rechten van de Benelux, maar ook voor de rest van de wereld. Dit is de eerste samenwerking tussen A Team Productions en The Searchers.<\/p>\n

Elise Van Marcke<\/strong> (Founding Partner van The Searchers) van op de set: “Het is een heerlijk avontuur om op de set te staan en te zien hoe \u2018Baghdad Messi\u2019 een pareltje wordt. Ik ontmoette de lieve Hamoudi, de held van de set. Hij speelt met bijzonder veel talent een ingetogen sc\u00e8ne met zijn moeder die iedereen met grote ogen aanschouwt.\u00a0 Alle gesprekken die ik hier heb, zijn oneindig interessant. Over film, diversiteit, oorlog en de toekomst. “<\/em><\/p>\n

A Team Productions werd in 2009 opgericht door Hendrik Verth\u00e9<\/strong> en Kobe Van Steenberghe. Ze produceren zowel kortfilms, documentaires als langspeelfilms. Onder andere Black<\/em> (2016) en Patser<\/em> (2018), van Adil en Bilall<\/strong>, zijn van hun hand. De talrijke prijzen en successen op o.a. het Berlijns Filmfestival en Palm Springs Film Festival in California bevestigen dat hun verrassende en innovatieve kijk op de audiovisuele industrie werkt.<\/p>\n

Kobe Van Steenberghe: \u201c ‘Baghdad Messi’ is voor A Team Productions een project waar we al jaren naar uitkijken na de verschillende succesvolle projecten die we in het verleden reeds met regisseur Sahim Omar Kalifa gemaakt hebben. Samen hebben we niet minder dan honderd internationale awards gewonnen, waaronder de juryprijs op de\u00a0Berlinale en als hoogtepunt de shortlist voor de Oscars. In The Searchers hebben we de perfecte partner gevonden om deze film in de markt te zetten en hem de internationale carri\u00e8re te geven die hij verdient. In de film volgen we Hamoudi (11) die leeft voor voetbal en wiens grootste droom het is om ooit net zo goed te zijn als zijn voetbalheld Messi. Wanneer hij op een dag ongewild betrokken raakt bij een aanslag wordt hij wakker in het ziekenhuis met slechts 1 been.
