Vier Vlaamse producties zijn uitgenodigd voor het Palm Springs International ShortFest, het grootste festival voor korte films in de Verenigde Staten. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Versailles<\/em> van Hyun Lories<\/strong>, winnaar van een VAF Wildcard in 2020, is bij de genomineerden, net als Stephanie<\/em> van Leonardo Van Dijl<\/strong>, vorig jaar nog geselecteerd voor de Kortfilmcompetitie in Cannes. Daarnaast staan ook Howling<\/em> van Laura Van Haecke<\/strong> en Eighteen<\/em> van Olivier Lambrechts<\/strong> en Dimitri Baronheid<\/strong> op het programma.<\/p>\n

\"\"Versailles<\/em> is het afstudeerproject van Hyun Lories aan het RITCS. Het is een film over een jonge vrouw die terugkeert naar de wijk in Brussel waar ze opgroeide, in een poging de draad weer op te pikken met haar zusje en een oude belofte in te vullen. Lories won er in 2020 een VAF Wildcard Fictie mee en de film was bij ons al te zien in de Belgische Studentenfilmcompetitie van Film Fest Gent.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

De korte fictiefilm Stephanie<\/em> van Leonardo Van Dijl werd dan weer gerealiseerd met een VAF Wildcard die de maker in 2015 ontving voor Umpire<\/em>, zijn eindwerk aan LUCA School of Arts. In Stephanie<\/em> volgen we het titelpersonage, een elfjarige gymnaste die zonet haar allereerste titel op een internationaal toernooi won en overladen wordt met felicitaties. Hoe meer ze geprezen wordt, hoe zwaarder de medaille begint te wegen.<\/p>\n

Stephanie<\/em> ging in 2020 in wereldpremi\u00e8re in de Offici\u00eble Kortfilmcompetitie van het Festival van Cannes en was daarna onder meer te zien op de filmfestivals van San Sebasti\u00e1n en Toronto. Na een succesvol festivalparcours werd de film in januari van dit jaar bekroond met de Ensor voor Beste Kortfilm. De productie van Stephanie<\/em> is van De Wereldvrede, de internationale sales agent is het Poolse New Europe Film Sales.

De derde Vlaamse titel in Palm Springs is Howling<\/em> van Laura Van Haecke, over een negenjarig meisje dat verhuist naar het platteland. In het landschap van uitgestrekte velden is ze op zichzelf aangewezen en wordt ze onafhankelijker. Bij ons was Howling\u00a0<\/em>eerder al te zien op het Internationaal Kortfilmfestival Leuven en op Film Fest Gent. De film werd geproduceerd door Serendipity Films.<\/p>\n

Ten slotte zal ook Achttien<\/em> van Dimitri Baronheid en Olivier Lambrechts worden vertoond in Palm Springs. In deze coming-of-age-film volgen we een jongen die opgroeit in een jeugdinstelling en binnenkort enkele belangrijke keuzes zal moeten maken. De hoofdrol in Achttien<\/em> wordt gespeeld door Mistral Guidotti<\/strong>, bekend van Fien Trochs Home<\/em>. De productie is van Animal Tank.<\/p>\n

Stephanie<\/em>, Howling<\/em> en Achttien<\/em> kwamen tot stand met de steun van het VAF\/Filmfonds van Vlaams minister van Cultuur Jan Jambon. Palm Springs International ShortFest vindt plaats van 22 t.e.m. 28 juni.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
