Typerend aan hem is dat de filosofie achter zijn werken hem continu voortstuwt. Op zowat alle continenten liet hij een veelheid aan werken en projecten achter die allemaal met elkaar gelinkt zijn en weer samenkomen in <strong>LABIOMISTA<\/strong>, Vanmechelens nieuwe studio in Genk.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joris Gijsen<\/strong>, onder andere bekend van de documentaire over <strong>Triggerfinger<\/strong>, onthult in zijn 70 minuten durende documentaire wat de drijfveren zijn achter de niet aflatende energie en de vele ontmoetingen van de kunstenaar. In <em>Wild Gene<\/em> volgt Gijsen de kunstenaar vanaf 2013 tijdens vele tentoonstellingen en projecten. Van zijn opmerkelijke deelname aan de bi\u00ebnnale van Havana in Cuba tot de realisatie van zijn totaalkunstwerk LABIOMISTA in Genk. En daartussen de Bi\u00ebnnale van Veneti\u00eb, de expo in Lisson Gallery London en zijn projecten met Masai in Tanzania en Chido Govera in Zimbabwe. De beelden worden aangevuld met uniek archiefmateriaal over Vanmechelens zoektocht naar de oorspronkelijke kip, de red junglefowl, in Nepal en India.<\/p>\n<p>Gijsen legt zo het nimmer aflatende vuur vast van de sjamaan-kunstenaar. De rode draad doorheen zijn oeuvre zijn de dieren die Vanmechelen blijven fascineren; het DNA van zijn dierenkruisingen als de levende woorden van de grote performance die het leven is. Gijsen tekent Vanmechelen als schakel, zoeker en gids. Als outsider en wild gen. Zoals Vanmechelen het zelf stelt: \u201cAls een ei dat op barsten staat en dat telkens opnieuw naar de geknipte geboorteplaats zoekt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Wild Gene<\/em> geeft meer dan een blik achter de schermen van duizendpoot Vanmechelen.
