Vlak voor aanvang hoort hij dat hij nog maar negen maanden te leven heeft. Hij besluit het vonnis geheim te houden, maar de sc\u00e8nes die hij bedenkt voor zijn film beginnen samen te vallen met zijn eigen leven. Hij dicht bekenden, vrienden en geliefden een rol toe in zijn gefantaseerde film, terwijl hij in een bijzondere vriendschap met de dertienjarige Virginia, een laatste, rebelse reis maakt.
