Aan de prijs is een premie voor distributie in Itali\u00eb verbonden. <em>Cleo<\/em> beleefde in Rome zijn internationale premi\u00e8re, na de wereldpremi\u00e8re in Gent vorige week. Ik hoop dat dit een mooi begin is voor het internationaal festivalparcours van de film. Het is natuurlijk fantastisch om deze prijs te ontvangen met felicitaties van de broers Dardenne, twee Belgische filmmakers die mij als jonge regisseur enorm ge\u00efnspireerd hebben met hun sociaal-realistische films.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Het speelfilmdebuut van Eva Cools vertelt het verhaal van Cleo (17), die een verkeersongeval overleeft waarin haar ouders om het leven komen. Haar liefhebbende oma probeert Cleo en haar broertje een warm nest te bieden, maar moet het ontgelden met een rebelse tiener. Cleo zoekt troost in haar pianospel en de muziek van Rachmaninov, maar ook in de mysterieuze Leos\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Het titelpersonage wordt vertolkt door Anna Franziska J\u00e4ger, bekend als actrice in onder meer <em>My Queen Karo<\/em> van Doroth\u00e9e Van Den Berghe (2009). Daarnaast zijn er belangrijke bijrollen voor Roy Aernouts, Yolande Moreau, Natali Broods, Martha Canga Antonio, Lucie Debay en Ishaq El Akel. Brecht Goyvaerts stond achter de camera en Alain Dessauvage deed de montage. De muziekscore werd gecomponeerd door Mauro Pawlowski. Art director is Igor Gabriel.<\/p>\n<p><em>Cleo<\/em> werd geproduceerd door Annemie Degryse en Jan De Clercq voor het Gentse productiehuis Lunanime, in coproductie met Lumi\u00e8re Publishing. BE For Films vertegenwoordigt de film internationaal.
