Drie Vlaamse films zijn uitgenodigd voor de dertigste editie van FIDMarseille (9-15 juli 2019). Dat maakte de festivalorganisatie zopas bekend. Het gaat om de speelfilm Ghost Tropic<\/em> van Bas Devos, het middellange filmessay Ultramarine<\/em> van Vincent Meessen en de korte experimentele documentaire A Tongue Called Mother<\/em> van VAF Wildcardlaureate Eva Giolo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

FIDMarseille wordt sinds 1989 elk jaar georganiseerd en is een van de belangrijkste internationale festivals in Frankrijk voor documentaires en speelfilms. Dit jaar werden drie Vlaamse producties geselecteerd: Ghost Tropic <\/em>(competitie GNCR), Ultramarine<\/em> en A Tongue Called Mother <\/em>(\u00c9crans parall\u00e8les-sectie).<\/p>\n

Ghost Tropic\u00a0<\/em>is de derde speelfilm van Bas Devos en ging nog maar een paar weken geleden in wereldpremi\u00e8re als onderdeel van de Quinzaine des R\u00e9alisateurs in Cannes. De film toont een hoopvol portret van Khadija, een 58-jarige Brusselse vrouw die na een lange werkdag \u2018s avonds laat in slaap valt op de metro en geen andere keuze heeft dan haar weg naar huis te voet verder te zetten. Deze nachtelijke tocht dwingt haar om hulp te vragen en te geven aan de andere bewoners van de nacht.<\/p>\n

Na de wereldpremi\u00e8re plaatste The Hollywood Reporter Ghost Tropic<\/em>\u00a0in zijn lijst van 20 beste films van het afgelopen Festival van Cannes. De film is een productie van Marc Goyens voor Quetzalcoatl samen met Tomas Leyers voor Minds Meet en Nabil Ben Yadir en Benoit Roland voor 10.80 films, in coproductie met Proximus en het Nederlandse Phanta Vision.<\/p>\n

Daarnaast is ook Ultramarine<\/em> van kunstenaar en filmmaker Vincent Meessen uitgenodigd voor FIDMarseille. Ultramarine<\/em> is een visueel gedicht over de \u2018ballingschapsblues\u2019 met spoken word-performances van de Afro-Amerikaanse dichter Kain, muziekimprovisaties van de Belgische percussionist Lander Gyselinck en animatie-elementen. Het middellange filmessay ging in wereldpremi\u00e8re tijdens het International Film Festival Rotterdam als onderdeel van de Bright Future-sectie en werd er bekroond met de hoofdprijs in de Ammodo Tiger Short Competition.<\/p>\n

Ultramarine<\/em> is een productie van Vincent Meessen en Inneke Van Waeyenberghe voor Jubilee, in coproductie met Le Printemps de septembre, Galerie Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery en The Powerplant Contemporary Art Gallery.<\/p>\n

Ten slotte wordt ook de korte experimentele documentaire A Tongue Called Mother\u00a0<\/em>vertoond op FIDMarseille. De Brusselse kunstenares en filmmaakster Eva Giolo maakte de film met de VAF Wildcard die ze in 2016 kreeg voor haar KASK-eindwerk Remote<\/em>.\u00a0A Tongue Called Mother<\/em> gaat over de relatie tussen taal, gebaren en verwantschap. Met de 16mm-camera als onderzoeksinstrument volgt de film de dagelijkse gebaren en woorden van drie moeder-dochter-generaties (de moeder, de grootmoeder en het nichtje van de filmmaker).<\/p>\n

A Tongue Called Mother<\/em> ging in wereldpremi\u00e8re tijdens de afgelopen editie van Courtisane in Gent en krijgt in Marseille zijn internationale premi\u00e8re. De film is een productie van Chlo\u00eb Delanghe voor elephy.<\/p>\n
