\"\"Na het internationale succes<\/a> van ‘King of the Belgians’<\/em>, die 60 festivalselecties en 8 internationale prijzen<\/a> vergaarde en verkocht werd aan een 50-tal landen, krijgt ‘The Barefoot Emperor’<\/em>, de nieuwe film van Peter Brosens en Jessica Woodworth, productionele ontwikkelingssteun van het Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds (VAF). Dat werd zopas bekendgemaakt. De hoofdrolspelers voor hun nieuwe film zijn dezelfde als in ‘King of the Belgians’ : Acteurs Peter Van den Begin<\/a>, Lucie Debay, Bruno Georis en Titus De Voogdt bevestigden al hun deelname aan het project. De opnames, die in Kroati\u00eb zullen plaatsvinden, staan gepland voor het najaar van 2018. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Hoewel ‘The Barefoot Emperor’ op narratief en geografisch vlak een vervolg lijkt op ‘King of the Belgians’, is de film geen road movie noch een mockumentary. Brosens en Woodworth keren terug naar de strakke, gestileerde visuele aanpak van hun eerste drie gelauwerde films, ‘Khadak’, ‘Altiplano’<\/em> en ‘Het vijfde seizoen’<\/em>, maar met een levendiger tempo. Ook op thematisch vlak verkent de film nieuwe horizonten tegenover zijn voorganger.<\/p>\n

Synopsis:<\/p>\n

Koning Nicolas III van Belgi\u00eb loopt een schotwonde op aan zijn oor tijdens een ongelukkig incident in Sarajevo. Hij wordt wakker in een sanatorium op een Kroatisch eiland, dat ooit het befaamde zomerverblijf van Tito was. Daar verneemt hij dat het recente uiteenvallen van zijn koninkrijk heeft geleid tot de implosie van de Europese Unie. Terwijl de Koning probeert om deze ontwikkelingen te bevatten, geraakt hij samen met zijn entourage betrokken in Conclave 9, een obscuur gezelschap dat aan een nieuw Europees volkslied schrijft. Een gezant uit Wenen, een van de architecten van een nationalistisch ‘Nova Europa’, komt Nicolas bezoeken. Zij meldt dat de Koning is uitverkoren om Europa\u2019s eerste moderne Keizer te worden. Maar Nicolas wil zijn lot in eigen handen nemen.<\/p>\n
