Le film est bas\u00e9 sur les livres du journaliste portugais Jos\u00e9 Rodrigues Dos Santos, <em>The Magician of Auschwitz<\/em> et <em>The Birkenau Scrolls<\/em>, eux-m\u00eames tir\u00e9 d&rsquo;authentiques manuscrits trouv\u00e9s \u00e0 Birkenau, qui d\u00e9crivent les conditions de vie des prisonniers juifs qui composaient les Sonderkommando.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00ab\u00a0Ce qu&rsquo;il y a de particulier \u00e0 propos de ce film,<\/em> explique Jaco Van Dormael, <em>c&rsquo;est que Dos Santos met en lumi\u00e8re de fa\u00e7on rare les croyances d\u00e9lirantes sur lesquelles les th\u00e9ories raciales des Nazis \u00e9taient fond\u00e9es. Les chefs SS \u00e9taient fascin\u00e9s par le mysticisme et les sciences occultes, convaincus que les Aryens \u00e9taient une race divine r\u00e9chapp\u00e9e de l&rsquo;Atlantide. Les Atlantes, un peuple de surhommes, auraient migr\u00e9 du Tibet jusqu&rsquo;en Allemagne. Ce sont ces croyances d\u00e9lirantes que le magicien d&rsquo;Auschwitz utilisent pour survivre au coeur de l&rsquo;enfer. L&rsquo;id\u00e9e du film est de montrer que toute guerre repose sur une fiction. Il faut cr\u00e9er une fiction pour pouvoir d\u00e9signer un ennemi. Ces manuscrits, \u00e9dit\u00e9s par Dos Santos, et adapt\u00e9s en sc\u00e9nario par Jacob Marx Rice, nous rapprochent de la grande Histoire.\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dans le film, les protagonistes se tournent vers la magie comme un \u00e9chappatoire, et une source d&rsquo;espoir. Le h\u00e9ros dit: <em>\u00ab\u00a0Le secret de la magie est tr\u00e8s simple. On ne croit pas ce que l&rsquo;on voit. On voit ce que l&rsquo;on croit.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em> Le producteur du film, Jean-Jacques Neira, explique que le film met en lumi\u00e8re l&rsquo;aveuglement de masse. Il explore le d\u00e9ni dans lequel on peut se replier quand on fait face \u00e0 de telles atrocit\u00e9s. Belga Films Group, qui produira \u00e9galement bient\u00f4t la premi\u00e8re adaptation en prises de vue r\u00e9elles des aventures de Blake et Mortimer (une adaptation de La Marque Jaune), se r\u00e9jouit de collaborer avec Jaco Van Dormael, Cam\u00e9ra d&rsquo;Or en 1991 pour <em>Toto le H\u00e9ros<\/em>, Prix du Meilleur acteur toujours \u00e0 Cannes en 1998 pour <em>Le Huiti\u00e8me Jour<\/em>, et dont le dernier film, <em>Le Tout Dernier Testament,<\/em> a remport\u00e9 un joli succ\u00e8s public.<\/p>\n<p>Le tournage devrait d\u00e9buter, en Europe, d\u00e9but 2025.
